Anupama & I went to a new cafe recently.
What did we have?
Well, a SIMPLE cup of masala tea.
Yes. One cup, two people. I know I am old-fashioned in some areas. ;)
While having it, I looked at Anupama and she looked at me.
“Too much sugar for us, no?”
As you know, I don’t like much sweetness in tea.
Anyways. As were going away, the owner came and said:
“Sir, any feedback?”
I said: “What feedback?”
He said: “How was the tea? I mean, any rectification?”
I don’t freely give a lot of “advice” or “feedback” but I was a customer here so I said:
“Well, you have a nice place. And the tea was too much sweet for us….”
Before I finished my sentence, he jumped on my words like a tiger jumps on a deer and said:
“But it wasn’t much sweet. This much sweetness is required…. Blah blah blah...”
I smiled and said: “Cool.”
Mark Twain once said: “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
We walked away.
No plan of going back to that cafe. Nothing personal, though.
And that’s the lesson for today.
If you ASK for feedback, learn to ACCEPT what’s said.
Of course, you’re not going to ask for feedback to random people but only the people that matter. In this case, the customer.
But also…
If you want to master your speaking…
If you want better health…
If you want more energy…
If you want more confidence…
If you want to be a better parent…
If you want more romance in your married life…
...it’s not ENOUGH to just ask for the feedback.
“Honey, what can I do to make you happier?”
“How can I make my presentation punchier?”
“How can I reach financial fr-eedom?”
You have to learn to LISTEN & ACCEPT what they say.
Or else, DON’T ASK.
